宜君县位于关中平原与陕北黄土高原的结合部，南距古都西安120公里，北距轩辕黄帝陵27公里，因适宜君王避暑而得名，属国家扶贫开发工作重点县和革命老区。
全县总面积1531平方公里，辖6镇1乡1个街道办事处2个综合服务中心117个行政村，总人口约10万人，其中农村7.8万人。全县耕地56.11万亩，基本农田32.04万亩。平均海拔1395米，夏季平均气温19℃，森林覆盖率52%，植被覆盖率91.8%，被誉为秦岭以北最大的一叶“绿肺”。有玄奘手植娑罗树、彭祖故里、北魏石窟群、姜女泪泉、云梦山道教胜地、战国魏长城、旱作梯田、福地湖景区等，是仰韶文化的发祥地之一，是雁门支队活跃的红色革命老区，是“中国现代民间绘画画乡”。境内矿产资源丰富，有煤炭、石油、天然气、油页岩等近10种，石油探测储量1.06亿吨。
近年来，宜君县坚持走绿色可持续发展之路，大力实施生态立县、农业富民、工业富县、旅游兴县、项目强县“五大战略”，农业现代化、县域工业化、城乡一体化和全域景区化建设取得了明显成效。形成了塬区苹果、山区核桃、全县玉米为主的旱作特色农业板块，以方舟制药为代表的现代医药，以玉华酒业和棋智核桃乳为代表的特色饮品，以光伏、风电为代表的新型特色工业体系，全力打造生态品质优良、健康功能齐备的县域经济绿色转型发展先行区和幸福产业发展示范区。
宜君县先后荣获“国家级生态示范区”“国家卫生县城”“国家园林县城”“全国绿化模范县”、全国社会治安综合治理“长安杯”、全国信访工作“三无县”“中国核桃之乡”和“省级文明县城”“陕西省义务教育均衡发展合格县”“全省农村公路建设管理和农村公路养护管理‘好路杯’优秀县”“全省改善农村人居环境工作先进县”等称号，连续五届荣获“全国科技进步先进县”，连续三届荣获“全国平安建设先进县”，连续八年荣获“全省平安建设先进县”，连续五年荣获“全省深化医药卫生体制改革工作先进县”，四次获得“全省县城建设先进县”。
Yijun county, located at the junction of Guanzhong plain and northern of Shaanxi loess plateau, 120 kilometers from Xi 'an, an ancient capital, in the south, 27 kilometers from the Yellow Emperor mausoleum in the north, is a famous old liberated area. Yijun county has a total area of 1,531 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 117 administrative villages in 6 towns, 1 countryside, 1 sub-district office, and 2 comprehensive service centers, with a total population of about 100,000, including 78,000 rural residents.The county's plowland is about 3.75 hectares, 2.14 hectares of basic farmland. The average elevation is 1,395 meters and the average temperature in summer is of 19 degrees. The forest coverage rate keeps at 52% and the vegetation coverage rate is 91.8%, which is reputed as the largest "green lung" in the north of Qinling Mountains. Yijun county enjoys a brilliant culture and reputed resorts, such as Shorea Robusta planted by Xuanzang, the Homwtown of Pengzu, Northern Wei Dynasty Grottoes, Spring converged by tears of Lady Meng Jiang, Yunmeng Mountain, The Great Wall of Wei in the Warring States Period, Dry Terraces, and Fudi Lake. Yijun county is one of the birthplaces of Yangshao culture, an old liberated area of Yanmen detachment, also the hometown of Modern Chinese folk painting. It has abundant mineral resources, including 10 or so mineral resources like coal, oil, natural gas and oil shale, the detection of oil reserves up to 106 million tons.
For the past few years, the whole county has stuck to green and the sustainable development, and Five Strategies to build an ecological county,: agricultural county, industrialized county, touristy county, and project-driven county.
